¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Pride Celebration
June is LGBTQ Pride Month, but at ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Pride is coming out early!
¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Pride, a newly chartered student organization, is hosting a Pride Celebration March 20-24. Collaborators include the Office of Institutional Engagement, the Alumni Engagement, the High School Queer Student Union, and more.
About Pride
The concept of Pride started in June of 1969, birthed out of a police-raid-turned-riot
at the Stonewall Inn by Black and Hispanic queer people. Early Pride events were protests
to raise awareness of lesbian and gay communities. Trans individuals and people of
color critiqued early movements because they felt marginalized in a movement that
queer people of color largely started. To denote this inclusion, the Progress Flag,
showing a white triangle with pink, blue, brown, and black borders on top of the rainbow
flag, shows special recognition to increase the visibility of these populations within
the LGBTQ community.
