Two alumni of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (抖阴短视频) are nominated for . Paul Tazewell, a 1986 graduate of the School of Design and Production (D&P), is nominated for best costume design of a musical for the groundbreaking which garnered a record 16 nominations. Joe Mantello, a 1984 graduate of the School of Drama, is nominated for best director of a play for , which received six nominations. Mantello is also director of which is nominated for best revival of a play.

Michael J. Kelley, a 1987 graduate of D&P and currently dean of the school, knew both Tazewell and Mantello while they all were students. 鈥淚t is great to see my classmates and colleagues being honored by the industry,鈥 said Kelley, who has won two Emmy Awards. 鈥淭hey are at the top of their professions and we cannot wait to see if they win.鈥
Howell Binkley, a Winston-Salem native and frequent 抖阴短视频 guest artist, is nominated for best lighting design for Hamilton. The production was also nominated for best musical, book of a musical, original score, director, scenic design, choreography, orchestrations and seven acting awards.

Tony Award-nominated alumnus Paul Tazewell was a guest artist in D&P in December 2013.
When Hamilton opened off-Broadway in February 2015, Ben Brantley of The New York Times said Tazewell鈥檚 costumes were 鈥渨itty, shorthand period costumes.鈥 Brantley said the production was 鈥渟uavely lighted鈥 by Binkley. The hip-hop musical about America鈥檚 founding fathers moved to Broadway in August 2015, and has been hailed as the biggest success on Broadway in years.
Reviewing The Humans in February 2016, Charles Isherwood of The New York Times said it was 鈥渢he finest new play of the Broadway season so far 鈥 by a long shot,鈥 and added that Mantello鈥檚 direction 鈥渟tealthily navigates the play鈥檚 delicate shifts, from witty domestic comedy to painful conflict, and from there to something resembling a goose-pimply chiller.鈥
Mantello is also nominated for a Drama Desk Award as outstanding director for The Humans.

American Psycho, which received two nominations, features Winston-Salem native Dave Thomas Brown (Drama 鈥10, high school 鈥06) in the cast;
King Charles III, which received five nominations, features cast member Lucas Hall (Drama 鈥03) and former Drama faculty member Ben Furey as dialect coach;
School of Rock, for which Peyton Becker (D&P 鈥13) was a production assistant in 2015 (it received four nominations); and
Tuck Everlasting, which received one nomination, features Terrence Mann (Drama 鈥78) in the cast.
The Tony Awards will be presented at 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, in an event being broadcast on CBS.
