��������Ƶ alumni were cast members of Golden Globe's three best films

Alumni of the School of Drama at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts were cast members in each of the three films that took top honors in their categories at the Golden Globe Awards, presented Sunday.

Lucas Hedges appeared in two of the films that won best picture, including the most celebrated film of the evening. He appeared as Robbie in “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” which won four awards including Best Picture – Drama. He also appeared as Danny O’Neill in “Lady Bird,” which won Best Picture – Comedy. Stephen McKinley Henderson (’72) also appeared in “Lady Bird” as Father Leviatch.  In “Coco,” winner of Best Animated Film, high school graduate Natalia Cordova-Buckley (’01) voiced the character of Frida Kahlo.

Hedges and Henderson also appeared together in last year’s Golden Globe winner for Best Drama, “Manchester By the Sea.” They are nominated for Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards for Outstanding Cast for “Lady Bird” and Hedges is nominated in the Outstanding Cast Award for “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.” SAG awards will be presented Sunday, Jan. 21, at 8 p.m. on TBS and TNT.

Hedges, who is the son of alumnus Peter Hedges (Drama ’84), attended one year of college at ��������Ƶ before pursuing his acting career fulltime. Additional film credits include “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” “Moonrise Kingdom” and “Dan in Real Life,” which was written and directed by his father. In 2017, he appeared in “Yen” on Broadway.

Henderson’s film credits include “Fences,” “Lincoln” and “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.”  He’s appeared on television in “Elementary,” “The Newsroom,” “Blue Bloods,” “Law and Order,” and “New Amsterdam.” On Broadway, he’s appeared in “A Doll’s House, Part 2,” “A Raisin in the Sun,” “Fences” and “Dracula.”

 

Cordova-Buckley has appeared on television in “Agents of S.H. I. E.L.D” and “Agents of S.H. I. E.L.D Slingshot,” and in several Spanish language films.

Alumni of ��������Ƶ’s School of Filmmaking and School of Drama worked on or appeared in several other films and television programs nominated for Golden Globes, including “I, Tonya,” “Mudbound,” “The Greatest Showman,” “The Disaster Artist,” “Dunkirk,” “Stranger Things” on Netflix and “This is Us” on NBC.
