As a casting director with The Telsey Office, Tiffany Little Canfield (B.F.A. Drama 鈥00) has cast everything from commercials to Broadway shows, and from television shows to operas, including projects like 鈥淭his Is Us,鈥 鈥淢ary Poppins Returns鈥 and 鈥淔osse/Verdon.鈥
Her recent work has included casting for the film version of Lin-Manuel Miranda鈥檚 鈥淚n The Heights鈥; the upcoming live-action version of 鈥淭he Little Mermaid鈥; and the new Hulu comedy series 鈥淥nly Murders in the Building,鈥 with Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez.
Can铿乪ld discovered her career somewhat unexpectedly while working as an assistant on Baz Luhrmann鈥檚 production of 鈥淟a Boh猫me鈥 on Broadway, shortly after landing in New York City. Here, she taps into her expertise (and experience as a School of Drama directing student) to share some quick advice for those just getting started in their careers 鈥 particularly during the pandemic 鈥 and, perhaps, in search of their place.
Say 鈥測es鈥 to everything 鈥 鈥測es鈥 to web series, 鈥測es鈥 to play readings, 鈥測es鈥 to going to see that independent 铿乴m.
Con铿乨ence! And a strong artistic point of view. I love when a new actor comes in to meet me and isn鈥檛 seeking my validation, but is working with me more as a peer or colleague.
The biggest change has been the use of virtual auditions and callbacks. I鈥檓 not sure how or when things will go back to normal. I鈥檇 say right now, the best investment you can make is good internet and an Ethernet cable.
No one鈥檚 path is the same and there isn鈥檛 one de铿乶ition of success. Find your bliss!
